Site Tours
Schools and educational organizations have the option to experience the site with a guide (reservation required) or self-guided (reservation recommended) at their own pace. Site Tours include two activities: a tour of the fort and grounds as well as the Gallery Exploration Activity.
Tours of the fort and grounds focus on the Trail and Army eras and include a walking tour of the reconstructed fort buildings, Mormon Ferry replica, and Guinard Bridge replica. Students focus on looking and listening during this activity.
The Museum Gallery features exhibits on Pre-historic Peoples, Western Emigrant Trails, Frontier Army, 100 years of City of Casper history, the Oil Industry, Cattle and Sheep Ranching, Water Reclamation, and the Energy Industry. Following an introduction to the activity and a review of "Museum Manners," grade-appropriate activity sheets guide the students through the exhibits. Students focus on reading and writing during this activity.
Additionally, special exhibits may be available for viewing.
Prior to the visit, each teacher receives an “Educator’s Guide” by email. The Guides include information about the Site Tours as well as Pre-Visit and Post-Visit Activities. The Guide for each grade is adjusted to meet local and state curriculum standards.
